Significant contributions which are considered by the Board for election of an individual as a Fellow of the Institute include accomplishments such as: Developing or advancing a new technology, apparatus or device; Implementing a new management principle, methodology, procedure, or technique; Advancing the value, importance, and recognition of the profession in the marketplace or the media; Training or developing training materials that improve workforce knowledge and skills; and/or, Performing an honorable or heroic deed. ROCKVILLE, MD (February 5, 2010) - The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management's (IHMM) Board of Directors has announced the election of the following Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (CHMMs) as new Fellows of the Institute:
Mr. John Egan has over 20 years of experience in the hazardous waste remediation profession. He is currently employed as a Regional Remediation Project Manager with Pfizer. Mr. Egan is active in the New Jersey Chapter of AHMP. During 2008, he served as President of the New Jersey Chapter, which was awarded Chapter of the Year by AHMP. He has also served on the Executive board in other positions. Mr. Egan has a BE in Civil Engineering from University College, Galway, Ireland and a MS in Engineering Management from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and has been a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager since 2002. Mr. Egan lives in
Mr. Daniel Levine has worked in the chemical industry for over 40 years. He spent 31 years with AlliedSignal (now Honeywell International) and was their Director of Product Safety and Integrity before starting Product Safety Solutions in 1998. His activities in the area of chemical product safety and hazard communication include his serving as co-chair of the team that developed the 16-section Material Safety Data Sheet, now used internationally. He is a past president of the Society for Chemical Hazard Communication, served on their Board for 9 years, and now chairs their web site committee. Dan has been a trustee of AHMP's
Ms. Cheryl L. Polios has over 20 years of diverse environmental, health and safety experience. Since 2004, she has been an integral part of the Health and Safety Unit that services the entire NJ Judiciary. With over 9,000 employees across the state, the NJ Judiciary's Health and Safety unit is responsible for the development of health and safety related policies, coordination of statewide health and safety programs, compliance with NJ Public Employee Occupational Safety and Health requirements, and any other associated laws and regulations. Prior to joining the NJ Judiciary, Ms. Polios worked in the pharmaceutical industry in both research and development and manufacturing. She has also worked for small and large environmental engineering and consulting firms. The work included site assessment, characterization, and remediation including work on multiple US EPA Superfund sites. Ms. Polios has been a CHMM since May 2000, and has a BS in Environmental Science from
Mr. Barry R. Weissman is the President of Weissman Consultants, which specializes in all aspects of safety, health, environmental, workers compensation, and homeland security consulting and training for companies and consultants. Barry has been a CHMM for almost fifteen years, and works with the University for Medicine and Dentistry (UMDNJ), the OSHA Training Institute as an adjunct instructor. From 2005 through 2009, Barry received the AHMP Champion of Excellence Award, and in 2002 was recognized as Advanced Toastmaster - Silver Award from Toastmasters International, Inc. In 1999 Barry received recognition from the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers as their "Safety Professional of the Year." Barry has been active at all levels within the hazardous materials management community as a prolific speaker, writer, and avid gardener, and has volunteered his time and talents to over 25 industry, professional, and community service groups.
ROCKVILLE, MD (December 15, 2009) - At the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management's (IHMM) 25th anniversary celebration held last Thursday at the Tower Club in Tysons Corner, Virginia, Elizabeth R. Pfeiffer, CHMM, was formally recognized as the newest Distinguished Diplomate.
