ACHMM-NJ Meeting Minutes @ Willie's Tavern December 5th, 2007

7:10 PM C. Polios called the meeting to order and thanked everyone for coming. CP announced that the 2007 membership is182.

Personal introductions followed.


Treasurers Report (RC)

Balance of more than $51,300 with $26,000 in four CD’s with an interest rate >5%.  One CD was cashed in for 6K and re-invested with an interest rate >5%.


Secretary’s Report (DP) 

Minutes are on the Chapter website with one change.

Tabled for approval next meeting.


Programs(CP)

Reminder: Starting 2008, all General Membership meetings (Feb, April, June, Aug, Oct, Dec) will be held on the THIRD Tuesday of the month.

February Chapter Meeting (2-19-08): Topic Brownfields - Case Studies and real world examples at O'Brien & Gere-Pro Logics-Edison NJ-Middlesex Co.

April Chapter Meeting (4-15-08): Location-Rutgers Eco Complex, Columbus NJ, Burlington County

Essentials of Hazardous Materials Management (EHMM) Course- Location-NJDEP, Trenton NJ May 1st, 8th, 14th, and 22nd.

June Chapter meeting (6-17-08)-location NJDEP Headquarters, Trenton. Joint meeting with Philly Chapter; Topic & Speaker TBD.

National Conference is September 7-10 in Minneapolis Mn. The Chapter won the North Star Award at National the last two years for the chapter with the most members in attendance.

August meeting - Suggestion-Covanta in Rahway (Waste to Energy).

October Chapter Meeting -Joint meeting with NJASSE (who will host). Location & Topic: TBD.  Suggestions/volunteers for speakers/hosts for future meetings contact VP John Egan.


Regulatory Affairs (BW)

Federal Register Publications:

OSHA issued a Final Rule requiring employers to provide PPE to employees at no cost to the employee with certain exceptions. (29 CFR Parts 1910, 1915, 1917, 1918 and 1926)


DHS issued the Final Appendix A to Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) fully implementing CFATS (6 CFR 27).  The issuance of the List of Chemicals of Interest in Appendix A triggers certain reporting requirements in CFATS.


Technical Requirements for Site Remediation, N.J.A.C. 7:26E, are due to expire on December 17, 2007, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14B-5.1, but an extension by DEP has been requested and is awaiting the Governor’s approval.


Awards (CP/DP) 

Out of 42 total Champions of Excellence, the NJ Chapter had 9 @ National in 2007.  NJ won Honor Roll of Champions AND Chapter of the Year!!

CP reviewed the COE criteria...including attendance at chapter meetings (1 point) and doing work for the chapter - see ACHMM awards webpage.

Cheryl thanked everyone for their hard work and dedication, and asked members to review the qualifications and nominate those deserving.


Scholarships (DL)

The Jim Ross Scholarship for 2008 will be posted on the website within the next few weeks. Application deadline is March 15th, 2008. Scholarship is open to professionals in higher education in H&S field.

The Tom Dalton Memorial Scholarship for 2008 will be posted on the website within the next few weeks as well. Application deadline is May 15th, 2008. The scholarship is open to family members of current chapter members in good standing who have declared a major and who have successfully completed at lest one full year at the college/university.


New Business (CP)

Website Update– Matt Basso...significant revisions to the website needed and being discussed.  Volunteers wanted to assist in planning & re-design. See Matt if you are interested.


ACHMM Update(Mike Mandrachia)

One additional staff at national will be added to assist in National Conference and Leadership duties.

National Overview Course (NOC) re-named to EHMM...should be available online June 1st, 2008.

National Conference is in September 2008...please consider attending.  Leadership Workshop is April 23-25 in Milwaukee.

National Conference in 2009 will be in San Diego; and in Atlanta in 2010.
